Developing Writing Style

Writing style is very much over-rated. While many writers do indeed have a certain style about them, it can change virtually overnight. Writers who are too in tune with what their particular style is and trying to develop that one style, often find that they spend too much time writing to fit into that particular format when they could be writing more productive material.

Every writer has a certain style when they first start out but trying to stay within the confines of that style is somewhat restrictive for the writer and the reader. If you have the ability to be very flexible in your genres, your style and your vision then you can become one of the best writers on many different levels.

A person’s writing style is often considered part of their persona or their writing signature which can be somewhat limiting to the writer. You can see that come through on many different levels in their work. For example, Danielle Steel is a wonderful romance author but she also has the ability to write on so many different subjects and could be in any genre she wanted because of her skill.

Writing style is something that should be varied and can be if a writer never allows someone to limit them to one particular genre or limit or restrict them by non-compete clauses. Writers need to be free to explore their artistic flows and restrictions are not in the picture of creativity.

If you are a writer who is looking for a particular genre to fit into or you feel like you should discover your niche market, stop now and decide to do it all. Write about everything and experience the writer’s world as a true writer who is uninterested in restrictions and avoids limitations.
