Paying Your Article Writer
If you are in the market for a good writer to ghost write an e-book, novel or even an article for you then you will inevitably come across a point and time when you need to decide what to pay the writer. While this is a sensitive subject for some writers and clients, it really shouldn’t be.
Writers know how long it takes to write a certain number of words and will most likely set their rate using this as a determining factor as well as the time they spend in front of the computer. Most writers now days can easily command $25-$50 an hour and if they aren’t getting that then most aren’t happy and they really shouldn’t be because they can easily find clients to pay their rate.
If you are in the market for a writer, understand different writers can pop out material at different speeds. Some writers can easily write six-500 word articles in an hour while others would struggle with two. The subject at hand will depend a lot on how quickly a writer can speed through writing the material as well the project itself.
E-books can be easier for some writers than others while other writers prefer to write articles and believe it or not, what a writer likes to write can determine their fee because writers are independent contractors who have the luxury of setting their own fees. It’s one of the perks for the writer who likes to name their price and set their own hours for working.
Some writers will charge a specific fee per hour and others will charge so much a word. The best way for you to pay your writer is to figure out what you can afford and what you are willing to pay for the work and kind of base what you will pay on those guidelines.
Most writers will be happy for the work but keep in mind that right now, technical writers are in demand so check around for what the going rate is before you make a suggestion for your writer’s fee.
It some cases, it is smart to let your writer suggest what they would like to be paid for their services.
Remember, the fees a writer will charge will depend on several factors. What the writer is required to do for research, the subject at hand, what type of writing is expected and genre is always a factor in what a writer wants to be paid. Many working writers, with children at home, like the flexibility in working from home for a client who allows them to work at their own pace so they may be open to lesser fees while others will charge astronomical fees just because they are a published author with many job opportunities.
In short, you can pay your writer what you want and they can charge what they want. The key is to reach a happy medium where both parties are well satisfied with the writer-client relationship.
