The Idea of Helping People To Overcome Their Stammer
My name is Steve Hill from the UK. At the age of four I developed a speech impediment which many people refer to as a stammer or stutter. For the purpose of this article I will be referring to it as a stammer. Unable to speak fluently ruined my childhood, mainly due to the damaging affect it had on my self confidence.
I was determined to achieve fluency and was happy and willing to try any form of treatment for stammering. Like many other people who have a stammer, I attended the traditional forms of speech therapy. The speech therapists; even though nice people; were not really able to help me. They had not had a stammer and therefore could not truly comprehend what I was going through.
At the age of twenty-one, I decided to embark on finding my own cure for stammering. It was far from easy, however after about a year I had managed to achieve fluency. To say that I was happy would be an understatement.
A few months later I had a superb idea, which was to offer to help other people who had a problem with stammering. I decided to run one-to-one speech therapy courses, these were to be held over a three or five-day period.
I am now thirty-four years of age and the courses are more popular than ever. Over the last couple of years I have developed alternative types of therapy for stuttering these include a self-help therapy DVD, e-book and audio book.
Steve Hill runs the How To Stop Stammering Centre in Birmingham, England. For more information about the centre please feel free to visit his website at:
